It’s that time again, Philadelphia Startup Weekend 4.0 (PHLSW) is just around the corner! It’ll be held September 28–30 at the University of the Arts Hamilton Hall and we’re really hoping that you’ll consider joining us!
For those of you who don’t know, Startup Weekend is an intense and invigorating creative event where entrepreneurs, developers, and designers work together to build and launch a startup in 54 hours. Sound crazy? It is! In the best possible way!
This video shot at the last PHLSW does a great job of showing what the event is all about.
On a personal note, I really can’t recommend this event enough because it completely changed my life. I understand that it might seem intimidating. When I participated in October of last year, I had no idea what I was doing (I actually googled “what is a startup?”) and I didn’t know anyone. Yet I felt so welcomed and appreciated and I left with a newly instilled sense of confidence. Not to mention the fact that it led to an amazing new job and group of friends!
One of my goals as organizer this year is to work to bring together a diverse group of attendees. And typically the biggest challenge is finding women (and designers) to participate. If you have any trepidation, you really shouldn’t. PHLSW isn’t about coding. It’s about developing relationships, celebrating creativity, and fostering innovation. It’s about trying new things, having fun, and learning along the way. At least for me it was.
So I hope you’ll consider checking us out! You can find more details here: http://philly.startupweekend.org/
And if you decide that you’d like to give it a shot, use the coupon code ‘GGD’ to get $40 off registration for a developer or designer! If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at hello [at] melissaivone [dot] com! I hope to see some of you there!
